This past Sunday we took a look into the signs & life in the Gospel of John. All the signs that Jesus performed during his public ministry are somehow linked to eternal life that he was about depart. They all speak to or demonstrate the fact that Jesus is the Son of God, the divine saviour of the world. The greatest sign of all was, however, the sign of his cross, when he died for the sin of the world. By dying on the cross Jesus showed the Father to the world - His love, grace and passion. 
People at the time of Jesus' earthly walk were asking Him to show some signs in order to believe in Him. The cross was the sign. That is the sign for all of us even today. Jesus died for my guilt and sin. He did that also for you!
