It amazes me how well John the Baptist was able to balance his life: Figuratively speaking his feet were firmly on the ground but his heart was anchored in heavenly realities. Can I have even a small piece of that lifestyle?
Think how many ways John the Baptist could have boasted about his life, ministry, relationship, leadership, skills of speaking, and so on. But he didn't. He was ready to lift up the one who was worthy to be lifted up -- Christ Jesus! He instructed his own disciples: "He [Jesus] must become greater; I must become less."
This reminds me that even though our message of Jesus Christ is of great importance, it does not make us great. We are messangers not the message. John 1:7-8 puts it this way: John the Baptist "came as a witness to testify concerning that light [Jesus], so that through him all men might believe, He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light."
My friend, lets keep our feet on the ground and our hearts in heavenly things. There is no need to lift up ourselves - Let's lift up Jesus.
